My background
I graduated as a veterinarian from Ghent University in 2016, then worked in mixed practices in Belgium and England. In 2019, I moved to Switzerland for a residency at the University of Zurich and, after sitting the board examination in 2022, became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary and Comparative Nutrition (ECVCN): the European specialist qualification in veterinary nutrition. I went on to broaden my spectrum and completed my Dr. med. vet. and joined AgroVet-Strickhof as a scientific intern.
This mix of clinical practice, research and industry is what I bring to each case.

Why nutrition?
Growing up, I think few dream of being a veterinary nutritionist. I was no exception, until my professors showed me what feeding can do! Where I once saw only numbers, I learned to read them in the context of a whole animal, and to see nutrition as something that works alongside medical treatment and lifestyle, not apart from them.
It is a young field that touches on so many other specialities. You learn how to think in a herd, and for the individual. It is where hard science meets philosophical and ethical considerations. When you enjoy learning, you quickly fall in love with it!

My approach
When it comes to nutrition, the line between physiology and philosophy is sometimes blurry. That is not necessarily a bad thing. Everybody is entitled to their own values, and my aim is to take yours into account while we work towards our common goal: optimal health of your pet, your patient or your business.
I don't sell food or supplements, so nothing I recommend is tied to a product line. I have co-developed products and value good relationships with manufacturers large and small. This is how I know the market and learn from their industrial insights. But what I advise is chosen for the animal in front of me, not for a brand. Whatever the aim, I strive for long-lasting partnerships rather than one-offs.

Why Bao?
Bao comes from Chinese meaning treasure or something precious, as well as describing the satiating feeling after a whole meal. It captures more than nutritional balance. It points at the animal's wellbeing as a whole.
